Chinese Language/Pre-University Program
★ I、Introduction
The school of international education of the University of Electronic Science and technology of China has set up a training program of Chinese as a foreign language for international students all over the world. It provides Chinese language and Chinese culture courses from beginning to higher level.
There are two semesters in an academic year: spring and autumn. The study period is from February to June (spring semester) and from September to December (autumn semester).
Chinese language learns will take evaluation on the language proficiency, then will be assigned into corresponding classes based on the evaluation result. Each semester is composed of 16 weeks, with 16-20 class hours of Chinese language courses per week. Besides the regular Chinese language learning course, there are also a series of activities such as regional culture study, museum visit, folk custom experience, etc. to help students master the necessary Chinese knowledge, deeply understand Chinese civilization, feel the original Bashu culture, and integrate into the traditional and modern life of Chengdu as soon as possible. Learners who have completed all the courses and passed the examination will be provided a certificate issued by the University of Electronic Science and technology of China.
A complete, scientific and characteristic curriculum system has been established with strict teaching management and experienced teaching team. The program is developed and delivered by a team of professional teachers, who have rich experience in teaching Chinese as a foreign language for decades. Many of them taught Chinese in the USA, African and European countries.

Compulsory Courses
Elementary Level: courses include Comprehensive Chinese, Listening and Speaking, Reading and Writing.
Intermediate Level: courses include Comprehensive Chinese, Listening and Speaking, Reading and Writing.
Advanced Level: courses include Advanced Comprehensive Chinese, Listening and Speaking, Writing and Reading.
Note: Pre-University Program course: Chinese for Science and Technology, Mathematics, Physics.

Visa & Regulations for Language Students
I、Foreign applicants applying for visa to China
The admitted students must apply for a study visa to China at the Chinese Embassy.
X1 visa: apply for studying in China for more than 6 months
X2 visa: apply for studying in China for less than or equal to 6 months
II、Materials required for visa application
Valid passport, Admission notice (original) , Visa application form for foreigners studying in China (JW201/JW202 form).
Note: When you retrieve your passport and receive Visa, please confirm that the embassy return your admission notice and the original JW201/JW202 form to you.
The X1 visa is valid for 30 days. Holders of X1 visa must register at the International Students Office within 30 days after arriving in China and convert the X1 visa to a study type residence permit. The school can only provide documents to apply for a residence permit after the semester starts and the student complete registration. Therefore, it is recommended not to enter China too early.
III、Visa requirements for applicants in China
1、According to relevant regulations, foreigners in China who apply for Chinese language program in UESTC must hold a valid Visa or study type residence permit issued by another school/University. In addition, you must provide the "Certificate of End of Study" or "Transfer Certificate" issued by the aforementioned school/ University.
2、If the applicant's visa or residence permit has expired or is about to expire, the school will not accept the application.
Note: Visa policies may change in accordance with national laws and regulations. All visa policies shall be implemented in accordance with the formal notice of the Exit and Entry Administration of Chengdu Public Security Bureau.
IV、Attendance and related management regulations of Chinese language program
The system of attendance according to class is implemented in Chinese language program
1、Chinese language students can apply for a training certificate and transcript (in both Chinese and English) from School of International Education after finishing their studies and completing their training plan. Chinese language students who miss more than one-third of the total class hours will not be able to obtain the training certificate.

Note: Only Online application will be accepted.
★ II、Application Qualifications
1. Ages: 18-65, non-Chinese citizen;
2. Good health condition;
3. Senior high school diploma or above

2. Click on "ONLINE APPLICATION" → "Application" → "Self-sponsored " →“Chinese language Student” / “Pre-University Program”;
3. Fill in all the blanks to complete the application.

★ IV、Fees
Tuition fee: 7000RMB/semester.
No on-campus dormitory is available for Chinese Language Students.
Note: No scholarship is available for Chinese language/ Pre-University students.

★ V、Application Materials
Please prepare the following documents while applying in the online application system.
1) One photocopy of your valid national passport;
2) Senior high school diploma or above (notarized, Chinese or English version)
3) Transcript (notarized, Chinese or English version)
4) Language proficiency certificate
5) If you are not in China, please provide the Physical Examination form. If you are already in China, the valid visa page is required;
The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete forms or forms without the signature of the attending physician, or the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant are considered as invalid.
Please carefully plan your physical examination schedule as the result is valid for only 6 months. Pleases keep the original copy of the Form for school registration.

Language/Pre-University Cultural Activities
Culture is a form of social behavior accumulated over a long period of time in a region, including material culture and spiritual culture. Language is the most special kind of spiritual culture. Language is the embodiment of spiritual culture, as well as a symbol and carrier of culture. Each region has different cultures and different languages. Language represents the unique culture and social concepts of this region. The spread of culture also depends on language.
University of Electronic Science and Technology of China has added cultural immersion courses and activities in the Chinese language curriculum design. While learning standard Chinese language, it organizes a series of activities such as museum visits, folk customs and regional lifestyle experiences so that students can master the necessary Chinese knowledge. Gain an in-depth understanding of Chinese civilization, feel the original Bashu culture, and integrate into Chengdu life that combines tradition and modernity as soon as possible.
Confucius Institute
University of Electronic Science and Technology of China recruits Confucius Institute scholarship students and receives short-term visiting groups from the Confucius Institute. Since 2014, the School of International Education of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China has received 12-20 people from Chengdu and Beijing organized by the Confucius Institute in Montpellier every year. During the one-week visit in Chengdu, our school was responsible for organizing the teaching and cultural experience activities of the Chinese language and cultural courses for the visiting group.
The Confucius Institute in Montpellier was established and launched in Montpellier, France in September 2013, undertaking by the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China.
