APPLICATION

Application requirements

General: non-Chinese citizen, 18-45 years old, in good health with valid passport.

Academic qualification: Applicants must have received, or expect to receive by the summer before their matriculation at SUFE in September 2022, a master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.

Language Proficiency: new HSK level 5 (scored at least 180)

Follow the steps below and finish the application process.

1. Remit the unrefundable application fee (830RMB).

Only bank transfer is accepted.

If payment is made in China, please fill in with payee's information in Chinese.

2. Register and submit application online

Application must be made online at http://ao.sufe.edu.cn.

3. Check the application feedback in case other supplementary documents are needed.

To access the most up-to-date information available, you should log into the application portal with the same username and password you used to create your online application. Admission Office may contact you for status update via email during the review process. Please do remember to check regularly the email box with which you register for an account at http://ao.sufe.edu.cn.

Supporting documents (Scan and upload in the application portal. Paper documents are not required during 2022 application circle.)

1. Official master (or above) diploma and degree certified (and translated if documents are neither in English nor in Chinese) by an authorized person.

* Applicants in their final year of master study need to submit a pre-graduation certificate at the time of application.

2. Academic transcript for all the courses taken for the highest education

* Applicants with academic transcript issued in a language other than English and Chinese, will need to submit both the original and certified translation (English/Chinese) of their documents.

3. HSK certificate and transcript.

If the previous degree is taught in Chinese, an official certificate can replace HSK.

4. One piece of personal statement in Chinese.

It should be 800-1000 words including the applicant's education (and working experience, if applicable), study plan, research findings, etc.

5. Letters of reference.

Two references are required, one of which must come from academic source.

The letters should be recent, dated, in English/Chinese, on letter-headed paper and with referee's (professor or associate professor) contact details (email, phone number).

6. Application fee payment certificate.

7. Passport identification page (valid beyond January 30, 2023).

8. Others (optional): certificates recognizing awards, merits.

* The Admission Office will look for evidence for predicted qualification is realistic.

* All the original documents/certificates will be checked during registration in 2022 September. If any falsehood is found, SUFE reserves the right to revoke admission.

ADMISSION

Document screening

When we receive your application, the Admission Office will endeavor to deal with your application as promptly and efficiently as possible within 30 days.

Each application is considered individually and careful consideration is given to all the information supplied. In assessing your applications the Admission Office is looking for:

-evidence that you meet the general entry requirements

-evidence that you have the correct and relevant qualifications for the program

-evidence that you have an interest in the subject for which you applied from your personal statement and letters of reference

-evidence from your reference that your predicted grades are realistic

Entrance examination

Applicants need to take the entrance examination (evaluative interview in most cases) in April 2022. The Admission Office will inform the applicants of the entrance examination arrangement via email. You will be evaluated by the individual school/college which offers the program you intend to register for prior performance and academic potential.

View the admission decision

Admission decision is made on the basis of the applicants' academic accomplishment, personal qualities and other factors, as evidenced by their academic records, letters of recommendation, and entrance exam. In general, program admission decisions are made in late May 2022. Applicants can check the admission decision through the online application portal http://ao.sufe.edu.cn.

* Phone inquiries are not accepted.

Accept the offer

If admitted, you will need to confirm whether or not accepting the offer via the online application portal by June 15, 2022.

* Those who do not confirm the enrollment online will be considered rejecting SUFE's offer and will not receive the admission package.

Get your admission package

The admission package will be sent out from late June 2022. Qualified candidates will get an admission notice, a visa application form (JW202 form), and a registration guide.

PROGRAM

Economic Law

Overview

The doctoral program in Economic Law, offered by the School of Law, is directed at students who wish to pursue advanced studies in economic law. It helps to lay a solid foundation of basic theories and research methods of law and finance, ensures the students to be able to think independently and creatively, conduct research and do practical work independently.

The anticipated course of study toward the Ph.D. degree in Economic Law is three academic years. In their first two semesters, Ph.D. students will enroll in courses designed to help them acquire the theories and research skills needed to complete a dissertation in their field of interest and to prepare them for qualifying examinations that test the depth and breadth of the literacies and skills they have acquired. During their second year, students will prepare a dissertation proposal and begin work on a dissertation.

Students will learn with high qualified, experienced academics and benefit from their knowledge and experience. The Law School has profound connections with various local government bodies and people's courts, law firms, securities companies, commercial banks, insurance companies, fund companies and multi-national companies. Students of the program, if meeting the requirements, can visit, interview or have an internship in one of the aforementioned institutions with the recommendation of SUFE.

The PhD program offers the opportunity to undertake advanced legal research, excellent training and work under the supervision of leading scholars. Instruction includes lectures, in-class workshop, collective tutorials, individual tutorials, etc. It grants emerging scholars an opportunity to contribute to the development of law as an academic field, and it provides an alternate pathway into law professionals in economic law in private or public sectors.
