This major aims to cultivate high-level professionals in international Chinese education, who master solid basic knowledge of Chinese, have relatively high humanistic quality, possess professional knowledge and skills in many fields such as Chinese literature, Chinese culture and intercultural communication and show potential for further development as well as senior application-oriented professionals of Chinese language and literature, who are capable of engaging in Chinese teaching in various types of schools at home and abroad and professions related to transmission and communication of language and culture in various functional departments, foreign trade organizations, press and publishing units, enterprises and public institutions.

Program Description

I Skills Profile

Students enrolled in this major should mainly learn basic knowledge of Chinese language, Chinese history and culture, receive basic trainings of humanistic and social sciences as well as master basic skills in professions related to languages, international Chinese education and practices in international cultural exchanges.

1. The graduates should master basic theories and knowledge of linguistics.

2. The graduates should possess professional skills in using Chinese as the second language in teaching, high ability in Chinese verbal expression and practical writing, ability to speak relatively standard Mandarin Chinese and master the standard use of Chinese characters.

3. The graduates should be familiar with basic knowledge of Chinese and foreign literature, master a foreign language and capable of intercultural communication.

4. The graduates should be familiar with guidelines, policies, laws and regulations related to Chinese language and its transmission.

5. The graduates should understand theoretical frontier and development trend of this field and have a broad cultural horizon.

6. The graduates should possess the ability in continuously acquiring new knowledge and carrying out scientific researches and practical work, and have a certain level of ability in critical thinking.

IV Major Direction & Feature

Teaching plans should adhere to the concept of One Body and Two Wings, in which One Body means knowledge of Chinese language and Two Wings mean quality in Chinese and foreign cultures and ability in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. In this process, relevant teaching platform and high-quality resources of the school could be relied on; cultivation of qualified teachers in international Chinese education should serve as the core; and practices and practical trainings on international education and teaching should be intensified. On this basis, works in various aspects should be promoted and efforts should be put into the work of broadening students' professional horizon, expanding their knowledge and skills related to secretarial work concerning foreign affairs and intercultural communication as well as cultivating and improving their ability in mastering Chinese and foreign language and engaging in relevant professions.
