The Academy of Arts and Design of Tsinghua University is making great efforts to build an international academic exchange platform as well as a bridge of multicultural communication through a major art and design education event which kicked off on Oct 29.
The academy has brought together experts from more than 50 top art and design institutes around the world, including the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Royal College of Art and Parsons School of Design, to discuss the top-level framework of art and design education via both in-person and online events at the 2021 Tsinghua International Conference on Art & Design Education (ICADE 2021).
The two-day event seeks to ask our diverse world in a post-pandemic era how we can review art and design education from a global perspective again, how we can continue interactions between different cultures and deepen interdisciplinary collaborations, and what is the best way to cultivate talents with forward-looking perspectives.
Peng Gang, vice president of Tsinghua University, said during his speech at the opening ceremony that the university encourages discipline integration and innovation, as well as in-depth cooperation among institutes from home and abroad. He added that the university tries to make our diverse world better by introducing questions and seeking answers to enhance understanding and deepen friendships.
Starting on Saturday in Beijing, the event boasts five sections including Presidential Forum, Academic Symposia, Graduation Exhibition and Student Forum, which will directly and comprehensively display new trends in art and design education, seeking the epochal value of art and design through difference and consensus.
Lu Xiaobo, dean of Tsinghua University's Academy of Arts and Design, introduced five sections of the conference, and expressed his hope that the event will be a high-level, open and multi-disciplinary platform, while stressing the university's firm belief in the value of fostering students' global competence.
Yang Dongjiang, deputy dean of the Academy of Arts and Design, said at the opening ceremony that Tsinghua University is making efforts to build a vibrant space to discuss our shared concerns around issues of art and design education to promote meaningful cross-border and interdisciplinary innovation and exchange between institutes from a variety of different backgrounds.
The diverse community has endless expectations and infinite possibilities. Confusion ends by raising questions and exploration begins with answers. Through questions and answers, we can all be connected.
