International students from the Communication University of China (CUC) shared their stories of living and studying in China at the Chinese speech contest "Me and Beijing" organized by the university's School of Teaching Chinese as Foreign Language and Publicity Department.

An Egyptian student whose Chinese name is Dawei won first prize. He is the champion in Egypt and in the continent of Africa and the global runner-up in the 15th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition.

He used to be a reporter in the Middle East branch of Xinhua News Agency, and a volunteer of the Association Internationale des Etudiants en Sciences Economiques et Commerciales (AIESEC), a non-governmental not-for-profit organization in consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

In Beijing, he said that he can learn about all kinds of people, appreciate the luxurious metropolis and buildings, see efforts of non-local people, observe the busy traffic and the crowds in the subway, and experience the real and three-dimensional city.

The Chinese Speech Contest for International Students is held once a year and has been successfully held twice so far.

The purpose of the competition is to improve the Chinese level of the CUC international students, enhance their appreciation of Chinese language and culture, and cultivate their interest and ability in learning and using Chinese.

The students' Chinese writing ability and Chinese speech level fully demonstrated the remarkable achievements of Chinese teaching in CUC, showed China's rising international influence, and fully reflected a humanistic, technological, and charming Beijing from the perspective of international students.
