A launch ceremony for the first phase of Soochow University's Future Campus was held in Wujiang district, Suzhou in East China's Jiangsu province on Nov 8.
The Future Campus is located in Wujiang district, Suzhou alongside the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, covering an area of 66.67 hectares.
The 14.4-hectare first phase includes apartment buildings for teachers and students as well as a building complex containing spaces for teaching, researching, offices, meetings, and catering services.
The School of Future Science and Engineering will also be set up in the first phase of the new campus, which focuses on artificial intelligent, information, and smart systems. Student enrollment began in September and 319 students who applied are majoring in AI, statistics, integrated circuit design and integration systems as well as mechanical and electronic engineering.
After construction is completed, the newly-enrolled students will move to the new campus in September 2022.
Two new majors, robot engineering, and data science and big data technology, will be offered at the new campus in 2022 and will increase the total number of students to about 1,000.
Soochow University has partnered with companies including Hengtong Group, Inovance Group, and LungCare Med to establish eight university-company joint institutes, which were also unveiled at the launch ceremony.
In addition, the Future Campus will build cooperation and academic exchanges with internationally renowned universities and research institutes to foster global talents.
