In the eyes of Ahmet Faruk Isik, an international student from the Shanghai International Studies University, China's "two sessions" are an important window for foreigners to observe China's development and policies.

He is a PhD student at Shanghai International Studies University's Department of Comparative Politics and Regional Studies and a research assistant at the university's Shanghai Academy of Global Governance and Area Studies.

The "two sessions" refer to the annual meetings of the national legislature and the top political advisory body. This year, the most important annual political event of China ended on March 11.

In Isik's opinion, the most important information released during the event is that the report on the work of the government has set GDP growth of around 5.5 percent as one of the main projected targets for development this year.

He feels the amount is attainable for China because the country exceeded the objective set last year in 2021. He went on to say that 5.5 percent is also sufficient to ensure the national economy's high-quality development.

Isik said he also noticed that regarding the political and economic situation in the world, "security", "development", "peace", and "economy" were mentioned many times during the event.

A wide range of themes were also considered, including income distribution, education, medical care, senior care, and child care. According to Isik, the "two sessions" put those topics of public concern on the table and sought solutions.
