Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU) held an online opening ceremony for the fifth "Belt and Road" Marine Fisheries Advanced Training Program from May 23 to 25.

The program is sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission to provide trainings for foreigners from countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative. This year, the program attracted 65 participants from 17 countries.

Marcio Castro de Souza, a Senior Fishery Officer from the Fisheries and Aquaculture Division at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, gave a presentation at the ceremony.

He praised the partnership between FAO and SHOU and commended SHOU for organizing the program despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. He encouraged the participants to cherish the training opportunity and establish good connections with experts and professors.

According to Jiang Min, vice president of SHOU, the university will continue to strengthen its partnership with FAO and actively take part in international education cooperation in the field of fisheries and aquaculture around the world, and focus on developing professionals from countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.

Since the end of 2016, Shanghai Ocean University has coordinated four sessions of the "Belt and Road" Marine Fisheries Advanced Training Program. In addition to professors and students from universities and related research institutions, the program has attracted more than 100 senior administrators from various fisheries departments. The program this year covers fisheries and aquaculture trainings.
