Shanghai Summer School (3S), which was launched by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission in 2008, has become a branded project for international cultural and educational exchanges. It aims to attract more foreign students to experience China, learn Chinese, and study in Shanghai.

The Chinese Culinary Culture Program was originally a cooperative program that was established by Shanghai Polytechnic University and Ansan University in South Korea. It joined the 3S series in 2015 and welcomed its first group of students in 2016. It has been held every year since 2016.
