The School of Chinese Studies and Exchange of Shanghai International Studies University is holding an online Chinese studies summer camp for foreign students.

The online camp was launched on July 11 and will be held for seven weeks. It opened 11 classes and has attracted more than 150 overseas students from 30 countries and regions.

Similar to summer camp last year, the majority of the students are still supported by the "Carnegie Mellon University Scholarship Program" and the "Shanghai Summer School Scholarship Program." The number of students taking part in the summer camp on their own to study the language and take in the culture has also increased.

"A good teacher is worth more than ten thousand volumes of books. Teachers at the summer camp are humorous and their classes are interesting. I found that I love China even more! It was the right decision for me to attend the online summer camp," according to one of the students after the first day of the class.

The summer camp is expected to help participants learn practical Chinese language, improve their cultural understanding of China and view the country from different perspectives.

It provides participants access to Chinese lessons, academic lectures and cultural experiences through livestreaming courses and enables them to go sightseeing in Shanghai through virtual tours.

Chinese culture-related lectures are given by the teaching staff. Additionally, information about traditional Chinese medicine, paper-cutting, Chinese operas, and Chinese calligraphy will be discussed.

In order to meet the unique demands of students in various time zones, nighttime teaching courses were established in addition to the usual teaching times such as the morning and afternoon to give students more options for class activity and assure the quality of instruction.
