The Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA) in Nanjing, the capital of East China's Jiangsu province, has in recent years been going the extra mile to forge cooperation ties with international partners.
To date, the university has partnerships with 187 universities and research institutes from the United States and Canada, as well as countries in Asia, Europe, Africa and South America. It has also implemented 15 programs recognized by the Ministry of Education and the China Scholarship Council to educate internationalized talents and build academies in cooperation with overseas institutes.
For example, the university is working with Centrale Nantes, an engineering school in France, to train postgraduates in 10 fields of study. The first group of students were enrolled in the French school last year.
In addition, more than 500 students from the University of Western Australia and University of Technology Sydney have studied at NUAA's campus in Changzhou during the pandemic.
The university has also held classes conducted by foreign experts during the summer vocation for the past nine years, with more than 20,000 students taking part in the program. Due to the pandemic, it shifted two editions online and invited 79 foreign experts from about 30 different countries to give lectures to more than 4,000 students.
To enhance academic exchanges, the university cooperated with eight institutions from seven countries – the US, the UK, Russia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, and India – to form an international alliance for helicopter-related education in 2021. It has also organized 17 major international conventions in which over 200 scholars from about 20 countries produced reports.
NUAA is presently home to over 800 international students. Forty-five percent of these students are from countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative and 40 percent are pursuing their master's degrees.
