On Aug 14, the law school students from the Beijing Institute of Technology won the admission ticket to the global tournament of FDI Moot, one of the world's three most famous moot court competitions.
The ten-member team prepared for four months under the guidance of a school teacher. They competed alongside 42 teams, with more than 300 team members, from major universities across China.
They discussed topics on investment protection in armed conflicts, procedural disputes, such as the principle of res judicata and the principle of the exhaustion of local remedies, and substantive disputes, such as sufficient protection and security clauses, war damage clauses, and compensation for mental damage.
This competition enabled the students to not only accumulate a wealth of legal knowledge and experience in court discrimination that would otherwise be difficult to obtain, but to also improve their writing skills and case retrieval skills. Their English listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills were also comprehensively improved.
The FDI Moot was initiated in 2006 with the goal of helping future practitioners gain a practical understanding of the issues that arise from obligations between host states and foreign investors.
Held for 16 consecutive years, the FDI Moot is now one of the most prestigious moot court competitions worldwide and attracts students, academics, and practitioners each year.
