A summer program held by Shanghai Jian Qiao University to teach international students how to play weiqi, also known as the game Go, recently came to an end.
At the program's closing ceremony on Sept 17, the foreign participants said that they learned professional knowledge about the game, new skills and traditional Chinese Go culture and their Go skills have been significantly improved through the month-long program.
They also said that the weekly group training and friendly games helped them accumulate experience and make friends with international Go enthusiasts and continue to improve their skills.
Eileen Wu, a Go teacher, said that the program is significant for promoting traditional Chinese Go culture in European and American countries.
According to the university's international exchanges and cooperation office, Shanghai Jian Qiao University has insisted on utilizing Go as an important carrier for promoting traditional Chinese culture in recent years.
The university has opened a Go major, held various Go events and activities, and expanded foreign exchange channels to enhance the influence of Go at home and abroad.
