Thirteen international students from Nanjing University in Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu province took part in an activity in Yuyuan Garden on Nov 12 to learn about traditional Chinese culture.

The garden is the former residence of Hu Enxie, a prefect in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

During the activity, the students donned traditional Chinese clothing and learned about traditional Chinese etiquette and how clothes were sometimes seen as a status symbol in ancient China.

The students then tried their hands at stone rubbing and enjoyed a guqin (a plucked seven-stringed Chinese musical instrument) performance by Huang Ziling, an inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage.
