Lee Sua is a girl from the Republic of Korea (ROK). Chinese isn't a totally unfamiliar language for Lee, who has developed a deep interest in Chinese history and culture having studied in China for a while.
Lee returned to Beijing to continue learning Chinese and about Chinese history and culture after finishing high school in the ROK.
Lee decided to stay behind and pursue international Chinese education after completing her undergraduate program. Her participation in a speech contest helped her better appreciate the charm of the Chinese language and further affirmed her decision.
A place where dream begins
Lee won first prize in the Beijing competition zone and second prize in the final of a national speech contest for Chinese and Korean college students in July 2022.
During the speech contest, participants from the two countries were required to fluently express their thoughts in Chinese and Korean. Lee was astonished by the outstanding performance of her fellow contestants from both China and the ROK.
In that moment, she became more confident about her choice and aspired to be an international Chinese language teacher to help more people learn the language, history and culture.
A place that brings people a unique and warm experience
Lee likes to stroll around Beijing, which encompasses profound historical deposits and modern culture. It is also an inclusive and warm place with people from across the world living and working there.
Beijing Language and Culture University, known as the Mini-United Nations, has brought together students from many countries, including Lee. They study, live, visit local scenic spots, and appreciate hutong (traditional alleyways in Beijing) culture together.
They have become fully integrated into the city, which has made a lot of effort to make it more convenient for international students to live and work there.
Foreign languages are available by appointment when visiting tourist attractions in Beijing. This arrangement enables visitors to find more information and better enjoy the city’s rich history.
A place that impresses people
The Temple of Heaven is a scenic spot in Beijing that impressed Lee the most. Standing there, people see CBD area of downtown Beijing, which contrasts dramatically with the traditional marble railings and red walls of the park.
The Palace Museum, also known as the Forbidden City, is another tourist attraction site in Beijing that captured Lee’s imagination. She has been there many times and each time enjoys a different experience and feeling. On a more recent visit, she noticed that the number of pillars and animal-shaped decorations in the halls and rooms is different, because of their profound historical and cultural connotations.
Lee said that she loves Beijing, a warm, lovely and respectable city.
