Nanjing University's Suzhou campus in Suzhou New District will receive its first intake of students this November, said the university's officials at a news conference on Mar 1.
Construction of the east wing of the campus, which started in September 2020, is expected to be completed by the end of March, according to school officials. Construction of the west wing and facilities like roads and teachers' apartments are currently being planned.
To meet the region's demand for talents and aid regional economic growth, the Suzhou campus will focus on five disciplines – artificial intelligence and information technology, functional material and intelligent manufacturing, biochemical medicine and healthcare engineering, earth system and future environment, as well as digital economy and management science.
Four schools related to intelligent science and technology, intelligent software and engineering, integrated circuits, and digital economy and management were established in June 2022. Five research institutes that specialize in subjects such as deep space exploration and green chemistry were built at the same time.
Another seven research centers focused on archaeology, intellectual property rights, visual computing and intelligent sensing, as well as other fields of study were launched this February.
Undergraduates at the Suzhou Campus can choose majors including software engineering and digital economy, while postgraduates can have majors including microelectronics and artificial intelligence.
