Three international students from Fudan University recently won the "Future China Hand" award at the fifth SFLEP Cup National College Students' Intercultural Competence Contest for their mastery of Chinese language and culture.
The team is one of the only four teams composed of international students that advanced in this year's final. The team's three members are two undergraduates Sato Takumi from Japan and Pascal Kwangwari from Zimbabwe and a postgraduate Javaria Nasir from Pakistan.
They demonstrated their excellent Chinese language skills and tacit teamwork spirit in three competitions, including case analysis of integrated diagnosis and treatment of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, an on-site Q&A and telling Chinese stories.
The team ranked first in the international student group with their overall score, and won the "Future China Award" with their in-depth understanding and interpretation of Chinese culture. Two teachers who guided the team, Shi Lina and Zhang Jiachen, won the Special Prize Runner-up Instructor Award. Their honor showcased the cross-cultural communication style and teamwork ability of Fudan University's teachers and students.
The contest is guided by the China Education Association for International Exchange and jointly held by Shanghai International Studies University and Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. This year's contest attracted student teams from nearly 500 universities across the country to participate.
