Named after purple grass, which is regarded as a symbol of peace, the volunteer team of the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders has seen an increasing number of foreign members join its ranks.

Chaman Gul, a Pakistani teacher at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, became a cultural envoy during a ceremony held by the museum on April 1.

"I hope all volunteers across the globe can work together to tell the history and promote peace to make the world a better place," said Gul.

Several outstanding international purple grass volunteers were presented with awards during the event.

The museum also conferred certificates to overseas education colleges of more than 10 universities, including Southeast University and the Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, to cooperate on international volunteer services projects.

The museum currently has about 400 international volunteers from 37 countries who are serving as attendants, translating historical documents, and participating in international activities. Among them is Imma, who studies at Southeast University and often shares about his experiences at the museum on social media platforms. Peace is the foundation to a good life, he said.

The museum has in recent years implemented a series of measures such as publishing books, building schools, holding lectures, and designing creative cultural products to promote peace.
