Shanghai University recently held a Sino-Japanese cultural exchange meeting to enhance communication between Japanese and Chinese college students.
The meeting was themed on the saying that "even though the landscapes are diverse, we share the wind and moon under the same sky," which moved many people during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the meeting, Jin Qi, deputy director of the Confucius Institute Office, shared his experiences studying in Japan and stressed the importance of communication in language learning.
Three Japanese students, Seki Yoshiichi, Seki Shoichi, and Riku Teshima, from the Tokyo College of Shanghai University showcased their hometown's beautiful scenery and customs, which boosted Chinese students' interest to learn more about Japanese culture.
Shoichi said that he is very happy to meet with Chinese students who are learning Japanese and are familiar with Japanese culture, adding that he will reciprocate by learning more about Chinese culture in studying Chinese.
Both China and Japan have a rich culture of calligraphy. The students also experienced calligraphy by writing the meeting's theme. Teshima recalled that he studied Japanese calligraphy for six years in elementary school and that he is pleased to experience Chinese calligraphy through this meeting.
