Thirty-three diplomats from foreign countries' consulates in Shanghai are learning Chinese language and culture during this year's Shanghai Summer School - Diplomats' Program.

The program is jointly sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and the Foreign Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, and organized by East China Normal University (ECNU), a prestigious university in Shanghai.

High-quality Chinese courses and professional and thoughtful services and management are being offered during the program, which has become very popular and influential among foreign diplomats in Shanghai. It has been held for 11 years and nearly 500 diplomats from more than 60 countries' consulates in Shanghai have participated in the program. From 2021 to 2022, the program was held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and this is the first year it has been held post-pandemic.

This year's program, which kicked off on April 12, welcomed foreign diplomats from 20 countries. It provides learning content that is closer to the needs of diplomats and is carrying out more activities with Shanghai's regional cultural characteristics.

Huang Meixu, director of the ECNU Global Education Center, encouraged the diplomats to interact with teachers when learning Chinese language and experience the charm of Chinese culture through various activities during the program to improve their Chinese communication skills and deepen their understanding of Chinese society and culture.

According to the university, the program has always been committed to promoting friendly exchanges between Chinese and foreigners and enhancing exchanges between the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and the consulates of various countries in Shanghai. It has become a bright business card for building a bridge of friendship between China and foreign countries.
