The 4th UN Job Fair, co-hosted by the China Scholarship Council and Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), took place in Xi'an on Nov 27.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Li Qing, deputy secretary-general of the China Scholarship Council, with a welcome address delivered by Hong Jun, vice-president of XJTU.
In his address, Hong extended a warm welcome to guests from 22 United Nations agencies and international organizations. He also highlighted XJTU's efforts and achievements in helping outstanding students find internships or jobs at international organizations.
Over the past six years, the university has seen over 100 students intern or work in international organizations, with more than 800 students participating in training, visits, and exchanges with such organizations. The university is committed to encouraging more students to explore the world and actively engage in international affairs.
In conclusion, he extended an invitation to the representatives of the attending international organizations, expressing hope for broader and deeper collaboration in the future.
After the opening ceremony, 36 representatives from 22 international organizations, including UNESCO, UNDP, UNHCR, UNEP, UNICEF, IAEA, and others, were engaged in face-to-face interactions and consultations with attendees at the exhibition booths. They took turns delivering specialized presentations, introducing their respective organizations and outlining the requirements and procedures for applying for internship positions.
More than 1,000 faculty members and students from 43 domestic universities, including XJTU, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Wuhan University, Sichuan University, Nankai University, and Shandong University, participated in the presentations and consultations.
To ensure the event went smoothly, XJTU mobilized a team of 60 student volunteers to provide assistance.
The UN Job Fair has been held three times since 2019. The event has increased awareness among the younger generation of Chinese towards international organizations. It has also established a platform for dialogue between Chinese universities and international organizations, facilitating direct connections and collaboration between the two sides.
