He is a professor at the University of Zurich and the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mathematics in Brazil, hailed as one of the world's most outstanding analysts. He has received numerous international awards and, at the age of 35, ascended the pinnacle of the mathematical field by winning the prestigious Fields Medal. His remarkable contributions to the theory of dynamical systems are considered to have "changed the face of this field".
On April 3, mathematician Artur Avila solemnly accepted the appointment as a guest professor at Nankai University from President Chen Yulu, and delivered the "Chen-Nankai Lecture," bringing an exciting academic presentation to faculty and students.
The event took place at the Shenshin Building on the Balitai Campus. More than 300 representatives, including Academician Long Yiming from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Mathematics at Nankai University, Distinguished Professor You Jiangong from Nankai University, and Professor Raphael Krikorian from the Paris Institute of Technology, bore witness to the occasion.
President Chen Yulu extended a warm welcome to Professor Avila on behalf of Nankai University. He stated, "Professor Avila's visit to the Institute of Mathematics at Nankai University has an important and positive impact on the cooperation between the mathematics discipline at Nankai and the international mathematical community. Currently, China attaches great importance to the discipline of mathematics, and Nankai University will fully support the development of the mathematics discipline. We hope that Professor Avila and his colleagues can visit Nankai University regularly, sharing the latest research achievements with faculty and students, and jointly promoting the advancement of the world's mathematical endeavors."
