On May 23, Southeast University in Nanjing, Jiangsu province celebrated its 122nd anniversary by hosting its inaugural International Cultural Festival. The event aimed to enrich the campus life of students and foster cultural exchange and understanding.
The festival featured a variety of cultural displays and interactive experiences, allowing students to learn about an array of diverse cultures. The lively event included traditional Chinese cultural activities related to opera, calligraphy, and tea ceremonies presented by Chinese students. International students showcased their cultures through traditional costume shows, folk dance performances, culinary tastings, and handicraft exhibitions.
Thirty-five national booths were set up at the festival. Highlights included traditional attire displayed by Russian students, canvas bags designed by East Timorese students, exquisite Iranian craft items, Nigerian drumming experiences, and unique lamb dishes prepared by Afghan students.
Throughout the festival, various performances prepared by international students were featured, including Indian dances and song and dance performances from Pakistan, Iran, and Yemen.
In his speech, Liu Pan, a Party official of the university, noted that the university currently hosts over 1,000 international students from more than 110 countries. He expressed his hope that both Chinese and international students will continue to grow in this global family with an open, inclusive, and positive mindset.
