An important gateway from China to Central Asia, Kashgar in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region is renowned for its well-preserved old town, the vibrant culture of the Uygur ethnic group and an exotic atmosphere unlike any-where else in the country. These unique characteristics have played a pivotal role in turning this ancient city into a magnet for tourists.
