A delegation of Japanese graduates from Chinese universities, invited by the Chinese Embassy in Japan, visited Shenzhen from August 12 to 16 for an exchange event, organized jointly by the China Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) and Waseda University.
The delegation, led by Kondo Shoichi, president of the Japan Alumni Association of Chinese Universities and a member of the Japanese House of Representatives, included 37 alumni from various sectors in Japan. Fang Yongsheng, deputy director of the CSCSE, attended some of the activities.
During their five-day visit, the delegation engaged with leading technology companies such as BGI Group, Pony.ai, BYD, and Huawei.
At the BGI Center, they explored BGI's mission of "using gene technology to benefit humanity" and its vision of advancing global life sciences research and improving healthcare through technological innovation. At Pony.ai, they experienced the transformative impact of autonomous driving technology and the convenience of artificial intelligence in transportation.
At BYD, they saw the company’s commitment to innovation through its patent wall and learned about its achievements in the new energy vehicle sector. At Huawei's Bantian base, they were introduced to Huawei’s digital solutions in industrial manufacturing, power, logistics, and public affairs management, as well as innovations in the digital energy sector.
The delegation also visited Shenzhen University, gaining insight into how the university integrates "innovation and entrepreneurship education" into its talent cultivation process, aligning with the development of the Special Economic Zone, and understanding the vital role of Chinese higher education in the country's socio-economic development.
The visit concluded with a summary and farewell meeting. Many participants reflected on their memorable study experiences in China and observed the achievements of China’s reform and opening-up. They expressed their intent to bring their experiences and insights back to Japan and to continue contributing to China-Japan exchanges and cooperation across various fields, as well as to foster friendly relations between the two nations.
To date, the CSCSE has supported five visits of Japanese graduates to China, organizing exchanges in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. The CSCSE plans to enhance communication with overseas alumni and their organizations and further develop a comprehensive service system for visiting scholars, continuing to promote educational and cultural exchange between China and the rest of the world.
