A group of 20 overseas students immersed themselves in the metaverse world of GTVerse at Beijing Workers’ Stadium on Dec 6, thanks to the China International Youth Exchange Center.

GTVerse is enabling students to learn “real” classes within a virtual world due to the continued development and application of key technologies, including 5G, artificial intelligence, blockchain, cloud computing and virtual reality,

A cultural landmark in Beijing, the Workers' Stadium is the home of Beijing Guo'an Football Club, and the visiting students got a taste of what it’s like to grace the pitch.

Huynh Viet Gia Huy, an international student from Vietnam, said, "This event fulfilled my dream of visiting the Beijing Guo'an Football Club and let me experience the fusion of sports and future technology in the virtual world."

“I felt like I was really standing on the field — it was an entirely unprecedented experience,” said Changaiz Khan, a Pakistani student from Beijing Normal University, after exploring the Digital Football project.

For students like Khan, the visit to GTVerse was a perfect blend of entertainment and education.

“The integration of virtual and real-world elements fills me with anticipation for innovative forms of future sports events,” said Salman Shah, another Pakistani student. “Perhaps in the future, countries can leverage such technology to host cross-border friendly matches, attracting more participants and fostering deeper friendships.”

During a chat with the students, Gleo, the digital avatar of Beijing Guo'an, also shared insights into the history of metaverse development.

“I never knew a digital avatar could be so intelligent,” said Ohori Rio, a Japanese student at the Communication University of China.

“It was a fantastic experience for me, and I learned so much about the advancements in China’s digital technology,” she said.

GTVerse was pioneered by Sinobo Group, a Chinese conglomerate whose business spans sports, entertainment, commerce and technology.

Accroding to Ge Qi, vice-president of Sinobo Group, GTVerse will break the limitations of physical space and will be able to hold digital concerts and e-sports competitions with millions of audiences, and enable the parallel development of physical space and digital space.
