To promote the development of green public welfare, an alliance comprising 10 universities in Shanghai was launched on World Environment Day, which falls on Friday.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, Tongji University, and East China Normal University are among the universities. They will share resources and carry out projects together in the field of environmental education, social practice, and green-related public welfare. The alliance has pledged to base its efforts in Shanghai while serving the entire nation.

Over the past decade, some of these institutions have actively contributed to the Beautiful China initiative. For example, a team from Shanghai Jiao Tong University established three standardized sand control bases in Gansu province, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, and Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

In another project, a team from the same school leveraged its expertise in environmental science and agriculture and collaborated with over 100 universities from home and abroad. More than 2,000 volunteers from across the globe traveled to the deserts in Northwest China, planting over 5,000 saplings and stabilizing more than 5 square kilometers of sand.
