The closing ceremony of the Go training program for international students was recently held at Fudan University in Shanghai. The program, which included Go instruction, practical training, and cultural exchange, aimed to promote Chinese traditional culture among international youth.
The ancient Chinese board game Go is also known as weiqi in Chinese. As an important supporting event for the 10th Annual World Collegiate Weiqi Championship, the training program, which started in early May, also served to prepare international participants for the competition.
According to Fudan University, the program received enthusiastic responses from international students, with over 200 applicants and 86 students ultimately selected from 35 countries across six continents.
Kseniia Shatarova, a 20-year-old Russian student currently studying at Tongji University, said that through more than a month of systematic learning, she not only mastered the basic rules and strategies of Go, but also made friends from different countries and universities through classroom interactions and practice games.
"This experience provided me with a more direct and profound understanding of Chinese traditional culture," she said.
Fudan University plans to continue leveraging competitions and on-campus cultural resources to deepen the integration of sports, aesthetics, and moral education. The university aims to expand channels for international cultural exchange and mutual learning, helping more young people from home and abroad enhance understanding, build friendships and grow together.
